Food Editor

Marisol Vega

  • 12+ years covering Texas food
  • 254 counties visited
  • James Beard nominee, 2024

Marisol has covered Texas food for more than a decade, from border panaderías to Hill Country meat markets. She has ordered a breakfast taco in all 254 counties, and was a 2024 James Beard Award nominee for food writing. She joined Best of Texas in 2019.

Marisol grew up between Laredo and San Antonio, which is a useful place to be from if you intend to spend your career arguing about tortillas. She started at a weekly in the Rio Grande Valley, spent six years at a Houston monthly, and now runs food coverage here.

She is the reason this publication visits every place twice.
