12 San Antonio River Walk Hotels With Real Balconies

Every guest room at Hilton Palacio del Rio has a private balcony. That simple promise puts it first. Hilton also sells river-view and city-view rooms by name. The balcony is sure. The water is not.

The building explains the pattern. Workers built 485 finished rooms off site for HemisFair ’68. They trucked each room downtown and stacked it into place. Hilton finished another room update in 2025.

Hotel Valencia gives the cleanest booking answer in this guide. Choose the Premium River View King with Sit-Out Balcony. It sits on the third floor and spans 375 to 400 square feet. The page promises a river view and two chairs.

The room list now has more outdoor choices than the old draft showed. The Presidential Suite has two private balconies. City and courtyard rooms also have furnished balconies. Watch the bill: valet plus two nightly fees adds $90.75 before tax. There is no pool.

La Mansión began as St. Mary’s Institute in the 1850s. Its stone arches now frame some of the best river balconies downtown. The 400 square foot Premier Riverview Ambassador has a private balcony. The Presidential Suite has two.

Do not assume every balcony is private. Omni saves that word for named room types, and one guest report describes a shared space. Ask the hotel to confirm your room number. The heated courtyard pool stays open all year.

Mokara packs 97 rooms and two suites into a former saddle factory. Omni says its river-view rooms have private balconies over the Paseo del Rio. The 800 square foot River Walk Suite is the largest choice.

The rest of the hotel earns the luxury rate. The spa covers 17,000 square feet. A heated rooftop pool and whirlpool stay open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ask for the sightline, since a river-facing room can still sit close to the next building.

Only the water-view room types get the balcony worth booking here. Marriott’s gallery labels king and two-double choices with Water View and Balcony. An independent hotel review also notes a step-out space with two chairs.

The 30-floor tower sits by Hemisfair and the convention center. It has indoor and outdoor pools. Valet starts at $60 plus tax. Recent guests still flag old finishes in some rooms, so the view carries much of the value.

The Westin sells several balcony views. Riverside rooms face the water. Corner suites have two small balconies. A separate two-double balcony room faces the pool, so the word balcony alone will not get the river.

The hotel finished a full refresh in June 2023. Its outdoor pool is heated, and Zocca’s patio sits at water level. One old hotel reply says a standard balcony fits one chair. Ask for a second if two people plan to sit outside.

The Yellow Rose Penthouse gives you two private balconies in one booking. Both have a bistro table and two chairs. Both look toward the River Walk and downtown. The room starts at $289 and sits on the third floor.

Most other suites use a shared balcony or porch. The trade is easy to grasp. You get free parking and cooked-to-order breakfast, but no pool or elevator. The busy bars are a five to ten minute walk away.

Canopy opened in April 2021 with 195 rooms. Hilton’s room photos name a Premium King Balcony Riverview. Other photos show a city-view balcony. Those premium labels matter because most rooms have no outdoor space.

There is no pool. The hotel puts Domingo at river level and Otro Bar on the third floor. Free bikes help with the ride to Pearl. Valet costs $70 a night, the highest base parking price in this guide.

Hotel Emma publishes the best balcony detail on this list. Its Terrace rooms have an 86 square foot private terrace. Each one has a fireplace, tile, fans and a mesquite bench. The whole room averages 420 square feet.

The Dielmann Terrace Suite is the other outdoor room type. French doors open to a covered sitting area and large fireplace. Both choices sit at Pearl, north of the downtown loop. A 3.65% preservation charge applies to the room and hotel purchases.

Riverwalk Plaza sells five kinds of balcony rooms. The King with Balcony and Double Queen with Balcony both sit over the River Walk. A junior suite and Presidential Suite add more space. The 1,300 square foot Apartment Suite has two balconies.

This is the budget play. Rates started at $89 in our August 2 check, and valet is $39. Ask for an upper river floor. A ground-floor room can feel more like a pool patio, and recent reviews raise fair upkeep concerns.

Holiday Inn has one balcony choice in its booking stock. Look for One Bedroom Suite, Balcony. IHG’s main room page still groups rooms as standard, premium and suite without explaining the outdoor space. Get the room name in writing.

The value comes from the rest. Self-parking costs $41, which is rare on the loop. Valet is $49. The heated outdoor pool was recently refinished. Large trucks and roof boxes may not clear the 6 foot 8 inch garage.

Drury’s terrace suites face San Fernando Cathedral, not the river. That view works well for The Saga light show on the church. It falls short if your only goal is a balcony over the water.

The room page does a poor job naming those suites, so confirm them with the hotel. The rate includes hot breakfast and the 5:30 Kickback meal. A heated rooftop pool, two whirlpools and a second indoor pool add real value.
