A Friday-to-Sunday route through the limestone country, built around the two things it does better than anywhere else — cold water and live music.

The Hill Country weekend has a shape to it, and fighting that shape is how people end up
sitting in traffic on 290 at four in the afternoon. Swim in the morning, when the water is
coldest and the reservation slots are easiest to get. Eat in the early afternoon, because
every good barbecue joint in this part of the state sells out. Then find a floor.
These three guides cover the whole arc. Book the swimming hole first — it is the only part
of the weekend with a hard cap on numbers.
