Most people drive across Texas once and remember it as a gray afternoon on I-10. The
alternative takes longer and costs about two more tanks of gas: US-90 instead of the
interstate, state parks instead of chain hotels, and meals timed around when the good
places actually open.
Start with the Big Bend loop, which is the anchor. The parks guide handles where you
