The Great Texas Road Trip

It is nearly nine hundred miles from El Paso to Beaumont. Four guides that turn that distance into a route worth driving rather than a distance to survive.

Most people drive across Texas once and remember it as a gray afternoon on I-10. The alternative takes longer and costs about two more tanks of gas: US-90 instead of the interstate, state parks instead of chain hotels, and meals timed around when the good places actually open.

Start with the Big Bend loop, which is the anchor. The parks guide handles where you sleep, and the other two handle breakfast and lunch for the rest of the week.
