How this works

Our Method

Every ranking on this site is reported. Here is exactly how, and what we will never do.

We visit every place at least twice, unannounced, and we pay both times. Nobody knows we are coming, nobody comps our meal, and nobody finds out where they landed until the guide publishes.

Rankings are not sold. There is no sponsored placement, no affiliate weighting, and no arrangement under which a business can influence its position. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed at the top of every affected page, in the same type size as the headline.

What we pay for

Meals, admission, parking, gas and lodging come out of subscriber revenue. That is the whole reason the newsletter exists — reader funding is what lets us tell a barbecue joint it came 19th.

How rankings are built

Every guide states its own criteria and weights them in order. The writer proposes a ranking, an editor challenges it, and the fact-check desk confirms prices, hours and whether the place is still open in the week before publication. Each entry carries the month it was last verified.

When we get it wrong

Places close. Chefs leave. Prices move. When a guide falls out of date we update it and change the visible "Updated" date at the top — we do not quietly edit and pretend it was always right.

Corrections

If something here is wrong — a closed spot, a stale price, a misspelled family name — write to corrections@bestoftexasguides.com. Every note gets read by an editor within 48 hours, and substantive corrections are noted on the guide itself.

Our Method

No pay-for-play. Ever.

Every place on this site was visited at least twice, unannounced, on our own dime. Rankings are never sold, sponsored, or swayed. If it’s here, it earned its spot.
