We use Google Analytics to learn how readers use this site. Saved guides stay in your browser. Some travel guides use booking tools from Stay22, GetYourGuide and Viator. Fonts are served from our own domain.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see which guides you read. It also tells us how readers find the site. Google uses cookies to count visits and return visits. It receives the page URL and the site that sent you here. It also gets details about your browser and device. Google receives your IP address too, but says Analytics does not log or store it.

Stay22 booking tools
Some guides include paid booking links and Stay22 maps. We may earn a commission when you book through them, at no extra cost to you.
Booking maps load automatically as you scroll near them. We also load Stay22's booking-link script when you focus or press a booking link. Stay22 can receive your IP address, browser and device details, and the page you visit. It may use cookies and browser storage to track referrals and bookings.
A booking link takes you through Stay22 to a booking site, such as Expedia or Booking.com. Those services may also collect data and use cookies under their own policies. We do not collect your payment details or process your booking.
Read Stay22's privacy policy andcookie policy for more about its data use and your choices. Your browser settings can limit cookies or block third-party scripts. Our guides and official-site links still work with JavaScript turned off.
GetYourGuide activity bookings
Some guides include paid GetYourGuide links and booking calendars. The links contain our partner ID and a label for the article and link placement. These help GetYourGuide credit us when you book.
We load GetYourGuide's widget and analytics scripts when you open a calendar or focus or press one of its booking links. Calendars stay closed until you choose to open them. GetYourGuide can receive your IP address, browser details and page URL, along with link and widget interactions.
GetYourGuide handles availability, payment and bookings. Its site may use cookies to track referrals. ReadGetYourGuide's privacy policyfor its data practices and your choices. Our direct booking links work even when scripts are blocked.
Viator tours and transfers
Some guides have paid Viator links and tour widgets. Each link carries our partner ID and a label for its place in the guide. This lets Viator credit us for bookings. Text links work with JavaScript turned off.
Viator's widget script loads when you choose to show tour options. Viator can then receive your IP address, browser details and the page URL. It may use cookies to track visits and bookings. We do not collect your payment details or process your booking.

Saved guides
When you save a guide, the list is stored in your own browser using localStorage. It never leaves your device and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data clears the list.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, we store the email address you give us for the purpose of sending the newsletter, and nothing else. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the address.
Server logs
Our host records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, the page requested) for security and capacity purposes, and discards them on a rolling basis. We do not use them to build profiles of readers.
