9 San Antonio River Walk Hotels with River-View Rooms
The river is right there. The trick is booking a room that actually faces it.
By Diego Salinas, Staff Writer
The Short Answer
Valencia spells out sit-out and Juliet river-view balconies. Contessa has river-facing suites with separate living rooms. At every hotel, book the view in the room category rather than leaving a request.
A hotel can sit on the River Walk and still put you in a room facing a car park. That is a rough way to start a trip built around the view. The room name matters just as much as the hotel name.
These nine hotels list river-facing rooms or suites. Some have space to sit outside. Others give you the view through a window. Use this guide to narrow the choice, then make sure the river view appears on your booking. A request in the notes is not a promise.

Our picks for your trip
No. 1: Mokara Hotel & Spa
A river-facing room with spa time.

A balcony guest room at Mokara Hotel & Spa. Mokara Hotel & Spa / Official website Mokara pairs a central River Walk spot with a full spa and a heated rooftop pool. Its River View rooms add a balcony over the Paseo del Rio. That makes them a good match for a slow morning before the paths below fill up.
Choose the river-view category when you book. A standard room at this hotel does not settle the view question. Spa visits also have their own cost, so leave room for those in the budget. For dinner close to bed, Ostra serves guests beside the river.
Before you go: Ask for the river-facing room category in your written booking.Key facts- River View room
- Balcony in this category
- Heated rooftop pool
Pros
- Named river-view rooms
- Spa in the hotel
Cons
- View and spa can raise the total

No. 2: Hotel Contessa
A river view with a separate living room.

Sofa and chairs in the Contessa Suite living room. Hotel Contessa / Official website Hotel Contessa gives you more space to spread out. Its Riverview Suites have a bedroom and a separate living room in about 500 square feet. Big windows bring the River Walk into the room. It is a handy setup when one person wants an early night.
The view here is through the glass; this suite description does not promise a private balcony. Check the bed type too, since choices include a king or two full beds. A Cityview Suite has a different outlook, even though it shares the same hotel address.
Before you go: Pick Riverview rather than Cityview in the suite name.Key facts- Riverview Suite
- Separate bedroom and living room
- Large windows
Pros
- Separate living space
- Clear river-view category
Cons
- No balcony promised for this suite

No. 3: Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk
A central base with a named river-view room.

River Walk boat beside Hyatt Regency San Antonio. Hyatt Regency / IcePortal via Travel Weekly Hyatt Regency makes the booking choice fairly plain. Its room list includes 1 King Bed River View and 2 Queen Beds River View. Each is listed at 328 square feet. Pick the bed setup that fits your group, then check that the view is part of the rate.
The hotel sits on Losoya Street between the River Walk and the Alamo area. You can plan much of a downtown day on foot. Keep your expectations tied to the room you buy: an Alamo view, an atrium view and a river view are different things here.
Before you go: Save a copy of the exact room description with your booking.Key facts- King or two-queen River View
- 328 square feet
- Losoya Street
Pros
- Two bed configurations
- Central downtown setting
Cons
- Other room types face elsewhere

No. 4: Omni La Mansión del Rio
A balcony at a historic riverfront hotel.

La Mansión del Rio is visible on the left beside the river. Sophiegirl527 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0) La Mansión del Rio brings stone walls and arches to its stretch of the river. The Riverview Ambassador Room has a private balcony and a living area. It is a strong choice when sitting outside is part of the plan, rather than a bonus you hope to get.
The hotel also has a heated courtyard pool and Four Brothers restaurant. Those give you a few easy pauses between walks. Room layouts and views vary across the property, so do not assume every room comes with the same balcony. Ask for the named river-facing type.
Before you go: Confirm both the river view and the balcony before paying.Key facts- Riverview Ambassador Room
- Private balcony
- Heated courtyard pool
Pros
- Balcony in the named category
- Historic riverfront setting
Cons
- Room layouts vary

No. 5: Hotel Valencia Riverwalk
A choice between sit-out and Juliet balconies.

A river-balcony guest room at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk. Hotel Valencia Riverwalk / Official website Valencia is unusually clear about its balcony choices. The Premium River View King has a sit-out balcony with two chairs. The River View King with Juliet Balcony gives you a much smaller step-out space. Both face the river, but they suit different ideas of a morning outside.
You can also book a River View room without choosing either balcony type. Take care with the other labels: Courtyard Balcony rooms face the courtyard, and Deluxe Balcony rooms face downtown. If two chairs by the river are the whole point, keep the word Premium in your search.
Before you go: Choose the sit-out category if you want to share coffee outside.Key facts- Premium River View King
- River View King with Juliet Balcony
- City and courtyard rooms
Pros
- Specific balcony descriptions
- Several river-view options
Cons
- Some balcony rooms face away from the river

No. 6: Hilton Palacio del Rio
A balcony with a choice of outlook.

The Hilton Palacio del Rio faces the downtown River Walk. Robert Simmons / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 2.0) Hilton Palacio del Rio gives every guest room a balcony. The next choice is the view: rooms face either the River Walk or the city. That detail makes a big difference if you want to watch the boats from your own outdoor space.
The hotel sits on South Alamo Street, across from the convention center. Its outdoor pool offers another place to take a break. Choose a river-facing category at checkout, then double-check your confirmation. The word balcony on its own is not enough at this hotel.
Before you go: Book the river view as part of the room rate.Key facts- Every guest room
- River Walk or city
- Outdoor
Pros
- Balconies throughout the hotel
- Central South Alamo location
Cons
- City-view rooms do not face the river
No. 7: The Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio
Riverside rooms with balcony options.

The east wing of The Westin Riverwalk. Ling Li Yeoh / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 2.0) The Westin has rooms facing both the city and the river. Its official gallery labels king and double-bed Riverside rooms, along with river-side balconies. Start with those choices if the water is what you want to see when you pull back the curtains.
Do not treat all the photos as one room. A balcony shown in the gallery may belong to a different type from the rate you picked. Ask the hotel to match the view, beds and outdoor space to one room category. That short check is worth more than hoping for an upgrade.
Before you go: Ask staff to confirm all three: beds, river view and balcony.Key facts- Riverside room category
- King and double-bed options
- Confirm the exact room
Pros
- Several river-facing choices
- Riverfront address
Cons
- Balcony and view need a room-level check
Check rates on Expedia for The Westin Riverwalk, San AntonioPaid link. Check your dates, room type and total price before you book. Special packages may only be available through the hotel.
No. 8: San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk
Water-view rooms near the convention center.

The Marriott Riverwalk beside the river in downtown San Antonio. Robert Simmons / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 2.0) San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk lists water-view rooms in its official gallery. These include a king room with a balcony and a two-double room with a water view. The hotel is on the river beside the downtown convention area, with the paths close at hand.
Be careful with the hotel name while booking. Marriott Riverwalk and Marriott Rivercenter are two separate properties nearby. Once you have the right one, check whether your water-view room includes a balcony. Those two features do not appear together in every room description.
Before you go: Check the hotel address and exact room name on the confirmation.Key facts- Water View room
- King Water View with Balcony
- Marriott Riverwalk, not Rivercenter
Pros
- Named water-view options
- Convention-area location
Cons
- Nearby Marriott names are easy to mix up
No. 9: Riverwalk Plaza Hotel
River-facing choices at Riverwalk Plaza.

A guest room at Riverwalk Plaza Hotel; book the view category you want. Riverwalk Plaza Hotel / Official website Riverwalk Plaza lists a Double Queen River View room, plus king and double-queen rooms with balconies over the River Walk. That gives you a few ways to fit the view into a trip. Start with the bed count, then decide whether you want outdoor space.
Other rooms face the pool or courtyard. A suite is not an automatic step up in the view, either. Read the outlook for that room before paying more. For this trip, a clear river-facing description is more useful than a bigger room with a vague name.
Before you go: Compare the view description before comparing room size.Key facts- Double Queen River View
- King or double queen
- Pool and courtyard
Pros
- Several river-facing options
- Choice of bed counts
Cons
- Some suites face the pool

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a River Walk hotel always have river-view rooms?
The address alone does not tell you the view. Hotels may have rooms facing the city, a courtyard or an atrium. Book a room that names the river view.
Is a river-view room the same as a balcony room?
No. Some river-view rooms have large windows but no balcony. Some balconies face away from the river. Check both features in the room description.
Can I request a river view after booking?
You can ask, but a request may depend on what is available when you arrive. If the view matters, buy the room category that includes it.
