The 10 Best Business Schools in Texas, Ranked
Most Texas business school lists just copy the US News order. We went and pulled the pay, the job rates and the price tags.
By Cole Rutherford, Senior Editor
The Short Answer
The McCombs School of Business at UT Austin is the strongest business school in Texas. US News ranked it 18th in the country in 2026 and first anywhere for information systems. Its Class of 2024 left with a median starting salary of $150,000.
- McCombs School of Business: the top ranked program in the state, with the pay to match.
- G. Brint Ryan College of Business: about $19,628 in state, 40 miles from the Dallas job market.
- Jones Graduate School of Business: first in the country for startup training seven years running.
- Hankamer School of Business: a healthcare MBA with a hospital residency built in.
We looked at 14 Texas business schools. Four got cut before we wrote a word. The University of Houston is out, because Bauer College stopped running a full-time MBA. Trinity has no MBA at all. UT San Antonio and UT El Paso post no job rate, no class size and no test score. We will not rank a school on numbers that do not exist.
That left 10, and they sit further apart than any list will tell you. Jobs at three months run from 73% up to 92%. One school posts two different rates for itself. Tuition runs from under $20,000 to more than $160,000.
Three schools fell more than 10 spots in the 2026 US News list. One of them still shows the old number on its own website. That is part of why our order does not match the order you have seen.
We ranked on what happens to graduates first. Ranks came second, and price did real work in the middle. A few picks will look odd. Each write-up says why, and names the source.

How We Chose Them
We ranked every school on four things, in order of weight:
- Graduate outcomes. We started with how many people had jobs three months out, and what those jobs paid. Both come from each school's own reports.
- Ranking strength. We used the 2026 US News lists. We added Financial Times, Fortune, Bloomberg Businessweek and Princeton Review where schools post them.
- Cost against pay. We put the published tuition next to the published starting pay. We counted in-state pricing on its own, because it changes the math a lot.
- Program depth. We looked at what each school does better than its neighbors. That means named research centers and specialty ranks in fields like supply chain.
Between July and August 2026 we read tuition pages, class profiles, job reports, press releases and AACSB records for 14 Texas business schools. We kept the 10 with enough public data to compare fairly. We did not visit campuses, sit in on classes or talk to students. Where a school posts two different numbers for the same thing, we say so.
The 10 Best Business Schools in Texas, Ranked
No. 1: McCombs School of Business
The only Texas school in the US News top 20, and the highest median pay to match.

The graduate business building puts classrooms and open study areas around a five-story atrium near downtown Austin. McCombs School of Business / Official news site No other Texas school made the US News top 20 this year. Accounting here ranks sixth in the country. Real estate ranks eighth. The information systems title is shared with Carnegie Mellon, and nobody else sits up there.
Those ranks matter because you get to chase them. More than 70% of your classes are electives. There are over 100 to pick from and 20 tracks to choose. Fourteen of those tracks carry a STEM label, which lets students from abroad stay in the country longer once they finish.
The pay follows the ranking. The Class of 2024 also took home a median signing bonus of $30,000 on top of salary. Most hiring runs through named centers rather than one big career fair. Four of them recruit on their own: KBH Energy, the Real Estate Center, AIM Investment and the Kelleher center for founders.
One thing to know. The full-time program is now called the Hildebrand MBA, so search that name when you look up deadlines.
Come here if you want the most fields hiring on one campus and you can live with a Texas job hunt. Set on New York banking or a Bay Area tech job? Most of your class will be interviewing in Austin, Dallas and Houston. The hiring calendar is built around that.
Best for: someone who wants the strongest name in the state and plans to stay in Texas. How it scored- 4.8 out of 5
- 4.9 out of 5
- 4.2 out of 5
- 4.9 out of 5
Key facts- 1922
- $110,392 in state, $122,428 out of state
- 235 students, entered fall 2025
- 655 on the GMAT Focus scale
- 85.9% of the Class of 2024
- $150,000 base
Pros
- First in the country for information systems, US News 2026
- A $150,000 median starting salary, the highest median here
- The part-time MBA ranks sixth in the country, so working students get the same school
Cons
- Out-of-state students pay $122,428 in tuition before living costs
- 66% of the Class of 2024 took jobs in the Southwest, so coastal hiring is harder
No. 2: Jones Graduate School of Business
The priciest MBA in the state, and the one that hands out the most aid.

McNair Hall on Main Street in Houston houses the Jones Graduate School of Business. Rice MBA / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 2.0) Three programs keep Rice’s founder reputation fed, and none of them is a classroom. The Liu Idea Lab runs the student side. The Rice Alliance has worked with more than 3,300 companies over 23 years. And The Ion, a 266,000 square foot building in Houston’s startup district, gives students somewhere to go and build. US News put the specialty seventh in the country in 2026.
Students also run a bond fund through the Rice Business Finance Center. Houston does the rest. Chevron, ExxonMobil, Phillips 66 and CenterPoint all hire out of the program. That is what happens when your campus sits in the energy capital of the country. The whole degree carries a STEM label and a required trip abroad. There are 146 electives, which is a lot of choice for a group this small.
Sort out the money first. Almost nobody pays the number on the website, so treat it as a starting point rather than a price. Get your aid letter in hand before you compare Rice to anything else here.
Ask the career office for the full jobs report too. The headline rate is not on the main career page the way it is at McCombs and Cox.
Ask first: for your aid letter, since the published price is not what most students pay.How it scored- 4.5 out of 5
- 4.8 out of 5
- 4.3 out of 5
- 4.9 out of 5
Key facts- 1974
- About $80,439 a year, roughly $160,878 total
- 96% of students get one, averaging $81,000
- 137 students
- 693
- $146,000 base for the Class of 2025
Pros
- Named the top graduate startup program by Princeton Review seven years running
- Financial Times put it 16th in the country and first in Texas in 2026
- Nearly every student gets aid, which cuts the real price sharply
Cons
- The highest published price of any Texas business school
- What you pay rides on an aid offer you cannot see until you are admitted
- A class of 137 means fewer firms run their own hiring process on campus
No. 3: Naveen Jindal School of Management
A top 25 MBA for about a quarter of what the private schools charge.

The school occupies this management building on the UT Dallas campus in Richardson. Stan9999 / Wikimedia Commons (Public domain) This is the pick that will surprise people. UT Dallas made the biggest move of any Texas school in the 2026 US News list. It now sits ninth among public schools in the country. Nine graduates in ten have work three months out.
On the research list that UT Dallas puts out itself, the school places first in the world in information systems and in operations. Worth knowing. Also worth knowing who scored the exam.
Then there is the money, and the way it gets quoted trips people up. The in-state number covers the whole degree, not one year. The school says it hands every full-time student enough aid to reach that rate, wherever they come from. So the degree costs about a quarter of what Rice charges, for a program US News ranks six spots higher.
What you give up is scale. Forty-six students is a small room. The school has not posted a class test score in three years, and it hands out test waivers freely. That makes it hard to picture who you would sit next to. If the classmate network is the main thing you are buying, weigh that before the price wins the argument for you.
Worth knowing: the in-state figure is the total program cost, not a yearly rate. How it scored- 4.6 out of 5
- 4.5 out of 5
- 4.9 out of 5
- 4.0 out of 5
Key facts- 1975
- $36,118 in state, $65,607 out of state
- 46 students
- 90% of recent graduates
- $140,175 combined
- 53 credit hours
Pros
- Rose from 31st to 23rd in the 2026 US News list, the biggest jump in Texas
- The school says every full-time student gets aid down to in-state rates
- The professional MBA ranks 17th in the country for people who keep working
Cons
- A class of 46 limits how wide the classmate network gets
- The school has not posted a class GMAT average since 2023
- Its headline research rank is one the school puts out itself
No. 4: Mays Business School
A tiny class inside a huge school, plus the best public online MBA in America.

The 81,400 square foot building was dedicated in January 2025 and holds most graduate business classes. Mays Business School / Official website Thirty-six people start the full-time MBA at Mays each year. That makes it the smallest serious program in Texas, and one of the most personal. The degree ends with a consulting project for a real client, whether a Fortune 500 company, a startup or a nonprofit. Students pick a track in analytics, finance, marketing, supply chain, healthcare or startups. The school also runs the Sinn Center and a trading floor that was among the first five at any American business school.
Its best programs are not the full-time one. Financial Times put the master’s in finance second among US public schools in 2026. The executive MBA ranks seventh among publics. The online option beats every other public school in the country. Cannot leave your job? The online program outranks the campus one.
A class this small changes how hiring works. A firm that wants five people will run its process somewhere with more candidates. Ask which companies actually came to campus last year before you commit.
Distance is the other cost. College Station sits about 100 miles from Houston and closer to 170 from Dallas. Every interview turns into most of a day.
Also consider: the online program, which outranks the campus one it sits beside. How it scored- 4.3 out of 5
- 4.4 out of 5
- 4.6 out of 5
- 4.4 out of 5
Key facts- Wayne Roberts Building, opened January 2025
- $77,497 in state, $104,799 out of state
- 36 students in the Class of 2026
- 82.9% of the Class of 2025
- $137,756 for graduates with 3 or more years of experience
- First among public schools
Pros
- Climbed from 43rd to 36th in the 2026 US News list
- Its online MBA ranks first among all public schools in the country
- In-state tuition of $77,497 for the whole degree beats the private schools
Cons
- 36 students is the smallest full-time class on this list
- Two of its own pages give different job rates, 82.9% and 96.3%
- College Station is about 100 miles from Houston and around 170 from Dallas
No. 5: Cox School of Business
If you want to work in Dallas finance, this is the shortest path there is.

The Cox complex stands along Bishop Boulevard on the SMU campus in Dallas. Spencerjc1 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 3.0) Dallas built this school in 1920 and never let go of it. The Maguire Energy Institute covers oil, gas and power. The Folsom Institute has worked the North Texas real estate market since 1984. EnCap trains students for private equity and hedge funds.
Those are the corners of finance that do not deal in public stocks. Few schools this size teach it at all. All of that sits next to a student trading center where the investing classes happen.
Where graduates go proves the point better than any brochure. Finance and tech together take more than half the class. Consulting and real estate split about half of what is left. Fortune moved the school up five spots in its 2026 list, one of the better years any Texas school had. Cox tends to push that rank over its US News spot.
Look closely at the timing before you sign. Barely half the class had an offer on graduation day. The rest were still interviewing into the summer. Three extra months of Dallas rent belongs in your budget. That is a real cost at a school with no in-state break to soften it.
Plan for: a job search that runs into the summer after graduation. How it scored- 4.1 out of 5
- 4.3 out of 5
- 3.8 out of 5
- 4.6 out of 5
Key facts- 1920
- About $63,067 a year for 2026-27
- 71 graduates in the Class of 2025
- 82% of the Class of 2025
- $122,500 base
- 29% financial services, 26% technology
Pros
- Moved up five spots to 25th in the 2026 Fortune list
- Students help run a fund of about $6 million next to the school's trading center
- Every student does a consulting project abroad
Cons
- Only 59% of the Class of 2025 had an offer by graduation day
- 79% of graduates stayed in the Southwest
- Private pricing with no in-state break, unlike three schools ranked below it
No. 6: Neeley School of Business
A class of 76 that gets more attention per student than almost anywhere in Texas.

A fountain marks the business school complex on TCU's Fort Worth campus. Neeley School of Business / Official website Switching careers? Neeley was built for you. Half the class arrives from outside business. The people around you average about six years of work at age 27. The room knows how an office runs, even when it does not know accounting. One group moves through together, and nobody joins late.
Operations is where the school beats its own rank. Princeton Review called it the best MBA for operations in Texas in 2025, and sixth in the country. The same list put the way the program is run tenth nationally. Energy is a formal track, which fits a city still built on it. The other tracks cover analytics, supply chain, finance, marketing, consulting and startups.
The math is what should stop you. Nothing else here costs this much per dollar of pay at the end. TCU is private, so Texans get no break for living in state.
There is also a ranking problem the school has not addressed. Poets and Quants reported a steep US News fall this spring. TCU’s own site still shows the old number. Ask about it on your visit and see what they say.
Bring: a few years of work history, since the average student here has about six.How it scored- 4.4 out of 5
- 4.1 out of 5
- 3.6 out of 5
- 4.3 out of 5
Key facts- 21 months, starting each August
- About $141,810 across 54 credit hours
- 76 students
- 612 for the Class of 2025
- 89% of the Class of 2025
- $153,000 including bonus
Pros
- Princeton Review named it the top MBA for operations in Texas in 2025
- Bloomberg Businessweek put it 29th in the country and first in Texas for networking
- Half of each class comes from outside business, so career changers are normal
Cons
- The priciest program per dollar of pay, at roughly $141,810 in tuition and fees
- Poets and Quants reports it fell from 43rd to 60th in the 2026 US News list
- An average GMAT of 612 is modest next to what the program costs
No. 7: Hankamer School of Business
The best three month job rate we verified in Texas, built on a healthcare track nobody else runs.

The Foster Campus on Third Street in Waco houses the whole business school. Hankamer School of Business / Official website The Robbins healthcare MBA is what Baylor actually sells, and it comes in three versions. One puts you in a residency inside a hospital. One is built for students headed toward clinical work. The third is for people already working in medicine who want the management side. All three carry CAHME accreditation, the stamp hospital systems look for when they hire.
Around that sits an 18 month degree aimed at people early in their careers. Startups are the second draw. Other tracks cover analytics, cybersecurity and green business. Baylor has held its business accreditation without a break since 1959, longer than several programs here have existed in their current shape.
Two things cut against it. The 2026 US News list was rough, a 13 spot fall in one year that the school has not explained. And a program built around 24 year olds works differently for someone with a decade behind them. That student will find the class talk thinner than at TCU or Texas Tech.
Get a current tuition quote in writing. The page on the site is nearly two years old.
Best for: someone in their twenties heading into hospital or health system management. How it scored- 4.6 out of 5
- 3.7 out of 5
- 4.0 out of 5
- 4.1 out of 5
Key facts- 1959
- $29,250 a semester, last posted for 2024-25
- 18 months
- 80 students in the 2024 entering class
- 624 for 2022-23, and the test is optional
- 92% of the Class of 2024
Pros
- 92% of the Class of 2024 had jobs within three months, the best rate we verified
- The Robbins healthcare MBA carries CAHME accreditation and a hospital residency track
- AACSB accredited since 1959, one of the longest runs in the state
Cons
- Dropped 13 spots to 67th in the 2026 US News list
- The average student is 24, so there is little work history in the room
- The tuition page has not been updated past the 2024-25 rate
No. 8: Rawls College of Business
Built for people who already have a career and want to keep it while they study.

The Rawls building opened on Flint Avenue in 2012 and added a wing in 2016. Rawls College of Business / Official website Texas Tech assumes you are not going to quit your job. That one choice explains most of what is good and bad here. The professional MBA runs part time in four cities, so someone in Houston or San Antonio can enroll without moving a family. Tracks cover AI and data, energy, health management and HR. The energy track fits a part of Texas where that is still the main industry.
Online is where the school really competes. Its online MBA climbed into the top 25 in the country this year. It ranks 17th for veterans. The online bachelor’s in business sits 15th. For a campus program ranked in the hundreds, that gap between formats is odd, and it says where the college has put its attention.
Read the salary number carefully before it convinces you of anything. The people earning it walked in at an average age of 36 with about a decade of work behind them. It measures who enrolls more than what the degree adds.
Every school ranked above this one has posted a recent full-time jobs report. Texas Tech has not. Ask for one in writing before you sign.
Good fit for: someone mid-career in Houston, Dallas or San Antonio who cannot relocate. How it scored- 4.0 out of 5
- 3.5 out of 5
- 4.4 out of 5
- 4.0 out of 5
Key facts- 2000
- $54,500 in Lubbock, $65,000 in Houston
- 42 credit hours, part time
- Lubbock, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio
- 97.1% for professional MBA graduates
- $143,087 for professional MBA graduates
Pros
- The online MBA climbed 12 spots to 21st in the 2026 US News list
- Classes run in four Texas cities, so you do not have to move to Lubbock
- Tracks in energy business and health management are rare in Texas
Cons
- Both US News MBA ranks fell in 2026, full time from 92 to 105 and part time from 80 to 98
- The school has not posted a recent full-time MBA jobs report
- Its graduates already average about 10 years of work, so the salary is not what the degree added
No. 9: McCoy College of Business
The most honest job numbers on this list, at close to the lowest price.

McCoy Hall was finished in 2006 and sits on University Drive in San Marcos. Astonmartini / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0) Texas State does something the other nine schools do not. It posts a job rate that makes it look bad and leaves it up. The number sits right next to the salary. That helps when you are comparing programs, because several schools here post nothing and let you assume the best.
Sales is where the college is strongest. The University Sales Center Alliance gave its sales center the Best Sales Program award in 2024. Texas State was the first school to get it. The award covers the center, not the MBA alone, so read it as a sign of where the teaching talent sits.
The degree itself runs 16 months. A graduate internship and a trip abroad in the final term are both required, not optional. Students finish with live projects for local groups.
Set your hopes to the price. Graduates start about $70,000 a year below the top of this list. Nobody outside the school knows how hard it is to get in, because no class profile is posted. Both are easier to live with at this tuition than they would be in the top five.
Strongest for: anyone going into sales, where this college has a national award behind it.How it scored- 3.6 out of 5
- 3.5 out of 5
- 4.8 out of 5
- 3.8 out of 5
Key facts- $23,375 in state, $37,955 out of state
- 16 months, 36 credit hours
- A trip abroad in the final semester
- 73% of cohort MBA graduates
- $79,378
- Best Sales Program, University Sales Center Alliance 2024
Pros
- In-state tuition of $23,375 is the second lowest on this list
- Its sales center won the University Sales Center Alliance award in 2024
- The degree builds in a trip abroad and a graduate internship
Cons
- A 73% job rate at three months is the weakest here, though the school posts it plainly
- Average starting pay of $79,378 trails the top of this list by more than $70,000
- No average GMAT or class size is posted for any MBA format
No. 10: G. Brint Ryan College of Business
Cheap, close to the Dallas job market, and quietly strong in supply chain.

The building on Highland Street in Denton houses the G. Brint Ryan College of Business. Michael Barera / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0) Forty miles north of the Dallas job market, UNT charges less than anyone else here. Supply chain is where it beats schools costing five times more. Gartner ranks the undergraduate program fourth in North America, and the same department teaches the graduate classes. The risk and insurance program holds a Global Center of Insurance Excellence label, and only 36 other schools in the world have one.
The most interesting option is an 11 month consulting group that runs June to May. Seats are capped. Its graduates land at Texas Instruments, Frito-Lay, Fidelity, Ericsson and Paccar. There is also a sport and entertainment MBA, which almost nobody else offers, plus strong tax and accounting faculty.
Take the marketing with some care. The school’s rankings page mixes its real US News and Gartner spots with a stack of thin list sites, most of them undated. Telling them apart takes work. Stick to the US News part-time number and the Gartner supply chain number.
Then ask for job data on the exact track you want. The analytics MBA posts a $86,000 average. The college as a whole posts nothing.
Check: job data for your track, not for the college as a whole. How it scored- 3.5 out of 5
- 3.6 out of 5
- 4.7 out of 5
- 3.8 out of 5
Key facts- 2019
- About $19,628 in state, $37,488 out of state
- AACSB accredited since 1961
- 11 months, June to May
- More than 85% in the consulting group
- $86,000 within 90 days
Pros
- Its undergraduate supply chain program ranks fourth in North America per Gartner
- One of only 37 schools in the world with a Global Center of Insurance Excellence
- The 11 month consulting MBA places students at Texas Instruments, Frito-Lay and Fidelity
Cons
- Its part-time MBA slipped from 88th to 91st in 2026
- There is no single jobs report, only numbers for each track
- The school's rankings page mixes real awards with thin list sites
The gap between the cheapest good MBA in Texas and the priciest one runs past $120,000. The pay at the end is a lot closer than that gap suggests.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best business school in Texas?
The McCombs School of Business at UT Austin. US News put it 18th in the country in 2026 and fourth among public schools. Its information systems program ranks first anywhere. The Class of 2024 finished with a median starting salary of $150,000. Texas residents pay $110,392 in tuition over the two years. That is far less than Rice or TCU charge.
How much does an MBA cost in Texas?
Anywhere from about $19,628 to about $160,878. It depends on the school and where you live. Public schools charge Texas residents far less. UT Dallas lists $36,118 for the whole degree, and Texas State lists $23,375. Private schools charge one rate for everyone. Rice tops the list at roughly $160,878 in tuition and fees over two years.
Can you get an MBA in Texas without taking the GMAT?
Yes, at several schools. UT San Antonio does not require the GMAT or GRE at all. Baylor and UNT are test optional. Texas Tech waives the test for its professional MBA if you have two years of full-time work. UTEP lists scores as optional. Texas State grants waivers based on your GPA or a graduate degree you already hold.
Does the University of Houston still have a full-time MBA?
No. Bauer College stopped its full-time MBA in spring 2025. The last group drew only 19 students. The school still runs a professional MBA, an executive MBA and an online MBA. Poets and Quants put that professional MBA in the top 25 among public schools. If you want a full-time two-year MBA in Houston, look at Rice.
How much do MBA graduates in Texas earn?
Base pay starts around $79,000 and reaches $150,000. The school you pick moves that number more than anything else. UT Austin reports a $150,000 median base. Rice reports a $146,000 average base. Texas State posts an average of $79,378. TCU reports $153,000, but that number counts bonus money, so it is not a straight match.
Are Texas MBA programs AACSB accredited?
Every school on this list is. Several also hold the separate AACSB stamp for accounting. That stamp is what employers and other schools look for, and it is the first thing to check on any program you are weighing. Baylor has held it since 1959. UNT has held it without a break since 1961.
