The Short Answer

Hyatt Hill Country and JW Marriott offer plenty of water play. Omni Barton Creek suits a golf trip, Horseshoe Bay adds lake time, and Miraval or Lake Austin Spa Resort work well for a wellness break.

The Hill Country makes room for very different holidays. One person wants a water slide. Another wants a massage and a late lunch. A third has already packed the golf clubs. The right resort helps those plans fit together without too much time in the car.

Start with what you want to do most. Large resorts can fill several days, while a smaller wine or spa stay may suit a slower trip. We have included both, with the extra costs and booking details that help you choose.

How We Chose Them

We compared the places in this guide using their official room, activity and visitor pages. The details were checked on September 21, 2026. Our picks are based on that research; we have not visited every place.

  1. A useful fit for the trip. Each pick offers a clear reason to choose it, along with a limit worth knowing.
  2. Details you can check. The links lead to the hosts or park operators. Check your dates and the exact room before you book.

Our picks for your trip

  1. No. 1: Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas

A water-filled stay west of San Antonio.

Aerial view of the pools and grounds at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort. Hyatt Regency / Official fact sheet

Hyatt Regency Hill Country has grown well beyond a single pool. Its lazy river and water park now share the grounds with Big Spring Lagoon, a man-made beach-style space. You can float under the oaks, sit on the sand or rent paddle gear without driving across town.

There is more to the resort than swimming. Hill Country Golf Club has 27 holes, and Windflower Spa offers treatments away from the busier pool areas. Those are separate bookings. Build the trip around one main activity each day, then enjoy the freedom to stay on the grounds.

Before you go: Price the room, parking and planned activities together.

JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country combines the River Bluff water park with TPC San Antonio golf. That gives a mixed group a useful choice: a morning on the course or a morning in the lazy river. You can meet again for lunch without crossing the city.

The property also has Lantana Spa and an adults-only infinity pool. It is a large resort, so expect busy family areas as well as quieter corners. Reserve golf and spa times before the stay. If the water park is a priority, check the room’s wristband allowance and slide rules too.

Before you go: Set tee times before building the rest of the day around golf.

  3. No. 3: Horseshoe Bay Resort

    Horseshoe BayPrice: Check dates

A Lake LBJ resort with space for a group.

Hotel tower and pool at Horseshoe Bay Resort at dusk
Hotel tower and pool at Horseshoe Bay Resort at dusk. Horseshoe Bay Resort / Official website

Horseshoe Bay Resort puts the lake at the center of the trip. The marina offers a way onto Lake LBJ, while pools and a waterfront beach keep the day close to shore. Golfers have their own reasons to come, with resort courses and a separate putting course.

Lodging ranges from tower rooms to villas, condos and private homes. That choice matters: the resort is spread out, and not every room looks at the lake. Check the map and the guest access tied to your booking. A well-placed room can save a lot of back-and-forth with a group.

Before you go: Ask which amenities come with a condo or private-home reservation.

Sunset over the pools and golf course at Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa. Omni Hotels & Resorts / Group brochure

Omni Barton Creek gives a golf trip plenty of room to grow. The resort lists four courses, along with pools and Mokara Spa. The hills west of central Austin provide the setting, so you can spend a full day here without needing a city itinerary.

The courses are not all beside the hotel. Compare locations and tee times before you decide how much golf to fit in. Spa treatments and rounds are extra unless your package says otherwise. For a group with non-golfers, keep some shared time free for the pool or a long dinner.

Before you go: Check travel time to the course attached to your tee time.

Aerial view of Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort and Spa. Hilton / Official press release

La Cantera is a useful pick when the resort itself is the destination. Five pools give guests a choice of family activity or adult-only time. Loma de Vida Spa adds another place to slow down, while the golf course follows the hills around the property.

The hotel now operates as Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort & Spa. Nearby shops and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are on its shuttle list, but you may find enough to do without leaving. Reserve spa treatments and cabanas ahead. A room booking alone does not hold those places for you.

    AustinPrice: Check dates

An adults-only stay with meals and classes.

Yoga barn and grassy grounds at Miraval Austin
Yoga barn and grassy grounds at Miraval Austin. Miraval Austin / Official website

Miraval Austin makes the daily plan feel different from a typical hotel break. Meals and many group activities come with an overnight package. Guests must be at least 18. It suits a trip where you want to try a class, take a walk and avoid choosing a restaurant three times a day.

Some activities and spa treatments carry fees. Packages may include resort credit, but that credit has a limit. Read the class schedule, pick a few things you care about and compare packages around those choices. Leaving an empty hour can be one of the better decisions you make here.

Before you go: Compare package credit with the actual cost of your planned treatments.

Aerial view of Lake Austin Spa Resort beside the lake. Lake Austin Spa Resort / Official website

Lake Austin Spa Resort keeps its focus on the water and a slower day. Meals, snacks and many classes come with the room. Lake gear gives you a way to paddle out, while the pools and spa facilities offer a gentler plan back on land.

Treatments are charged separately. Reserve one if it is the reason for your trip, then leave time to use the other parts of the stay. This is a different pace from a large water-park resort. It works best when a quiet meal and time by the lake count as a full afternoon.

Before you go: Leave time around a treatment to enjoy the lakeside setting.

Lakeway Resort & Spa sits above Lake Travis, with separate family and adult pool areas. The lake view is a good reason to slow down over a meal or a drink. Choose a lake-view room if you want that scene to be part of the stay itself.

Boats and water rentals are arranged at the marina and cost extra. The resort has a spa and indoor family activities too, though hours vary. Check the current schedule for a midweek trip. You can have a fine lake weekend here without booking something for every hour.

Camp Lucy is a smaller resort with rooms, cottages and a strong reason to stay for dinner. Tillie’s dining room has tall wooden columns and a style you will remember. Folklore Spa is now open, adding another way to spend an afternoon on the property.

The grounds also host weddings and other events. Ask what is scheduled if you want a quiet escape, and book dinner and spa times early. Compare the room and cottage layouts before choosing. This is a good fit when food and a few well-chosen plans matter more than a packed activity list.

Tapatio Springs pairs an 18-hole course with a stay near Boerne. Rooms and suites have patios or balconies, and the grounds include pools and walking paths. The clubhouse and La Cascada Table & Bar give the evening a natural gathering place.

There is a separate adult pool, plus lawn games and fire pits for time away from the course. Check the music calendar if that sounds like your kind of night. Resort fees and golf package terms matter here, so compare the full stay rather than the first room price you see.

Carter Creek makes a wine-country weekend easy to keep in one place. The resort has a winery, Old 290 Brewery and dining on the grounds. Villas give you a separate bedroom and living space, plus a patio for a slow start the next morning.

Spa visits and live music add other ways to spend the stay. Packages change, so read the credit and tasting terms for the one you book. It is a strong choice when you want dinner and drinks close to your room. Arrange transport separately for visits to other wineries.
