9 Family Resorts in the Texas Hill Country Worth a Look

The Short Answer

Hyatt Hill Country and JW Marriott suit families who want lots of water play. Wild Oak Ranch adds villa kitchens, while Camp Fimfo and 7A Ranch offer a cabin-style trip.

A family resort earns its keep when the day can stay simple. Breakfast, a swim, a break in the room, then one more swim. You do not always need tickets to three places or a plan that starts at sunrise.

These Hill Country picks range from large hotels to cabin resorts. Think about your children’s ages before choosing. A tall slide is no help to a child who cannot ride it, and a full kitchen may matter more than a fancy lobby when everyone wakes up hungry.

A lazy river and a new beach-style lagoon.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country gives families several kinds of water day. The five-acre water park has a lazy river, pools and a two-story slide. Big Spring Lagoon adds a separate man-made beach setting, with sand and places to paddle. You could spend a whole stay moving between the two.

The watercraft at the lagoon are rentals, and cabanas cost extra. Check the rules and fees for the activities your children want most. The resort also lists bikes, trails and evening s’mores for time out of the pool. Leave room for those small pleasures between swims.

Before you go: Ask which lagoon zones are for swimming and which are for paddle sports.

JW Marriott’s River Bluff Water Experience has a lazy river, several pools and bigger slides for children who meet the height rules. The children’s pool has a shallow entry and small slides of its own. That mix makes it easier for siblings of different ages to find a place to play.

The resort limits water-park wristbands to five per room. Check that against your group before choosing a room or suite. The larger body slides require riders to be at least 48 inches tall. Golf and spa visits are extra plans, so book those separately if the adults want a turn.

Before you go: Measure the kids and confirm the room’s access limit before booking.

Family cabins with kitchens and water play.

Camp Fimfo suits a family who wants to cook some meals and keep outdoor fun nearby. Coyote cabins have three bedrooms, a full kitchen and an indoor bath. Other layouts offer fewer beds or different comforts, so the cabin name matters as much as the nightly rate.

The resort has pools, a water playground and slides, but some features run only on weekends outside peak season. The big slides also have height limits. A small Riverview cabin uses a bathhouse, while many family cabins have private baths inside. Read both the room page and the activity schedule before you promise a slide-filled Tuesday.

Before you go: Use the dated hours page to check what will be open during your stay.

Villa space for meals, naps and laundry.

Wild Oak Ranch makes the room part of the family plan. One- to three-bedroom villas have full kitchens, living space and in-room laundry. A studio has a smaller kitchenette instead. Choose a villa if you want to cook dinner while someone else takes a nap behind a bedroom door.

Outside, there are pools, waterslides and a lazy river. Nature trails and a putting green give you other things to try. This is a vacation-club property, and some discounted offers require a sales presentation. Read the rate terms so you know whether that commitment comes with the price.

Before you go: Compare an ordinary room rate with any presentation-linked offer.

La Cantera has separate pool areas for different moods. Families get waterslides and a children’s area, while Topaz is reserved for adults. The kids club lists supervised activities for ages four to twelve. That can leave time for a spa visit or a quiet lunch if a place is available.

The resort is now Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort & Spa. Its shuttle serves nearby stops such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas and The Shops at La Cantera. Check the current route and timing before leaving the car behind. Club sessions and cabanas need their own booking plans.

Before you go: Ask about kids-club space and fees before making adult-only plans.

Horseshoe Bay Resort works well when one hotel room feels too tight. Along with tower rooms, it has villas, condos and private homes. The larger choices can make a trip with grandparents easier. Check the location and guest privileges for the place you book.

The resort has pools, a waterfront beach and a marina. The Jungle Kids Club adds indoor play and scheduled programs, while the putting course offers a family outing on dry land. Boats, programs and golf can carry extra charges. Choose one or two paid activities and leave plenty of time to enjoy the grounds.

Lakeway Resort & Spa gives families a kids’ pool with a splash pad and waterslide. There is also a courtyard pool, plus an adults-only pool area. Lake Travis sits beyond the grounds, so you can enjoy the view without making every day a boating day.

The resort lists a Family Fun Zone, but its hours and the slide schedule vary. Confirm them for your dates, especially midweek. Water rentals at the marina cost extra. A room sold with a lake view is the one to choose if you want that scene from your window.

Jellystone Park Canyon Lake leans into the family-camp mood. Its Water Zone has slides and splash features, with pools, mini golf and jumping pillows elsewhere on the grounds. Themed weekends add more to the day. For a child who likes to keep moving, there is a lot to choose from.

You can book a cabin without owning an RV or pitching a tent. Compare the bed plan, bath and kitchen in each cabin type, then add the resort fee to the total. Activities follow seasonal hours. This park is near Canyon Lake, and it is separate from Jellystone’s Guadalupe River location in Kerrville.
